It doesn't have to be the original version that you previously had. In order to transfer the save file, you will need to have a copy of Diablo III - this can be a digital or physical copy. The previous save file alone, will not be sufficient. You have to export the save game from within Diablo, you can't just copy a PS3 save directly to PS4 as they are different formats I would imagine.
